18m asymmetric foiling powercat

Pachoud Motor Yachts are currently near to finishing the 3rd 18m foiling powercat design built for an existing RHYD owner to operate as a pleasure boat and luxury charter vessel out of Auckland. The first two 18m designs have both completed ocean cruising passages to Fiji and Australia. The second boat leaving New Zealand from Opua arrived in Noumea (New Caledonia) 27hrs later!

High perfromance cruising sailing cats

Cation

Kotuku

These two highly optimised cruising cats were built by the late Jon Douglas for Auckland based clients. They have both demonstrated the possibilities that can be achieved when owners commit to a performance goal through a design and building process that aims to achieve a least compromise solution. Both boats have live aboard accommodation and accessories, yet can out perform a competitive TP52 sailing to windward!

New Commercial Boats

This 13.8m aluminium displacement hull workboat is to be built by PDL Marine in the UK. It is a multi-purpose vessel to be used for day charter tourism, commercial dive work and other marine engineering tasks.

Recently launched is a 17m alloy displacement hull powercat for Southern Discoveries in Milford Sound for tourism ferry operations. Built by McMullen & Wing.

Both the above represent the growing number of commercial commissions undertaken by RHYD. These vessels offer an interesting contrast to the more prevalent 'white boats' normally undertaken by this office.

Powercats

Under construction at Alloy Cats is this very highly specified 13.5m adventure cruising powercat built to survey for charter work in South Australia and Tasmania. It will be based in Melbourne and hopefully become the first of a series of similar style long range cruising cats.

Alloy Cats in Tauranga are currently building the 4th 12m displacement power cat. This hull form has proven to a very efficient and seaworthy design with several layout and deck configurations across the series of builds.

This new 12m foiling asymmetric outboard powered composite powercat is designed to be built from a pre-made panel kitset. Alternative drive train configurations are available as is the option to fit the energy saving foil. Cruising speed range 22-35kt, top speed 45-50kt. Flybridge or sedan top configurations. Also suitable for dry stack storage.

In contrast, this 7.5m outboard powered trailerable launch follows the 'light displacement' or LDL concept for a displacement hulled vessel to be more efficient than the accepted standard displacement hull performance parameters. Efficiency gains are derived from light displacement combined with a hull form that has a very fine entry and a hard turn of bilge that transitions into flat aft sections. Optimum cruising speeds with moderate horsepower are in the range of 14-15kt.

This 14m planing hull powercat recently launched by Noosa Marine for a north Queensland client replaces his previous 12.5m RHYD planing powercat. Built from an ATL Composites 'Duflex' panel kitset. Fuel consumption at 17kt is 3.4L/nm which is very good for a boat of this type. A second iteration of this design is currently underway for a WA client.

Also by Noosa Marine is a 18.7m semi displacement powercat also built from an ATL Composites kitset. Built for long range coastal and offshore cruising out of Mooloolaba, she has four double cabins featuring a full width forward owner's cabin with large en-suite bathroom and an open plan main deck layout with seamless transition from cockpit to saloon. A very comfortable live aboard vessel in a very seaworthy hull form.

Oceancat Marine, a new startup boatbuilding company based in Brisbane is currently building this 8.1m trailerable aluminium/composite production boat. Offered in three versions, the Offshore 26, the Weekender 26 and the Ocean Fisher 26 with the latter being a centre console with two single berths and a full walk around deck. Various primary components, eg galley, cabin top, dinette, are moulded fibreglass for a lightweight, maintenance free, high quality standard of finish.

All in all we are very happy with Sunchaser and there are very few changes we would make if we were to build this boat again
